Tarbert Harris Visitor Information Guide
Tarbert at the isthmus between north and south Harris, is a thriving village with shops (including, of course, Harris-tweed suppliers) and a hotel which has sea-trout and salmon fishing facilities, there are car ferry services to Lochmaddy North Uist, and Skye as well as buses to Stornoway and around Harris.
Apart from the interesting road along East Loch Tarbert to Kyles Scalpay, overlooking the Isle of Scalpay, this is fine Walking country. One particularly pleasant hill walk is by a footpath beside the Laxdale Lochs, the salmon fishing here is controlled by the hotel to the village of Maaruig at the head of an inlet of Loch Seaforth. Several local houses offer B&B and this has become a popular sea-angling centre.
