Plockton Latitude: 57.340617 Longitude: -5.649089 Plockton Postcode IV52

Plockton situated in the Ross and Cromarty area was established at the end of the 18 century as a fishing place, and then on to become a crofting community. On the outer part of Loch Carron between Strome and Kyle of Lochhalsh, Plockton is a pleasant backwater with the main road passing in behind the hill.

On Eilean na Creige Duibhe an attractive small island at the mouth of Loch Carron the Scottish wild life trust and conservation area where herons nest in a stand of ancient Scots pines. The island is accessible by boat from Plockton, but visitors are asked not to disturb the birds.

Plockton today is a lively place. Its place on the tourist map was firmly established when, in the mid-1990s, the BBC chose to film a drama series called Hamish Macbeth here. Three series were made and tourists flocked to see its setting. Though the TV effect has diminished, summers remain very busy here. Today the highlight of the year is the annual Plockton Regatta, held for a fortnight starting on the Monday after the 4th Sunday in July.
