Here you will find Dunvegan castle the seat of the MacLeod Cheif's dating from the 9th century the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland, On display are many fine oil paintings and clan treasures, the most famous of which is the Fairy Flag.


Legend has it that this sacred Banner has miraculous powers and when unfurled in battle, the clan MacLeod will defeat their enemies. Another of the castle's great treasures is the Dunvegan Cup, a unique ‘mazer’ dating back to the Middle Ages. It was gifted by the O'Neils of Ulster as a token of thanks to one of the clan's most celebrated Chiefs, Sir Rory Mor, for his support of their cause against the marauding forces of Queen Elizabeth I of England in 1596, the gardens feature a diverse range of plants and flowers, woodland glades, shimmering pools fed by waterfalls and streams flowing down to the sea.

Take a boat trip on Loch Dunvegan to see the seal colony, charter one of its traditionally built clinker boats for a fishing trip. There are superb walks From family walks on the spectacular coastline to dramatic scrambles in the Cuillin mountains, the most challenging in Britain, the island provides fantastic walking The surrounding area offers almost every outdoor pursuit available, as well as stunning scenery and a fascinating history. Wild life abounds with red deer and sea eagles being regular visitors, you can go rock hopping on the coral beaches with snowy white shell sand.

The Gulf Stream comes up the coast ensuring a mild climate warm sometimes damp weather sustaining all sorts of wild orchids and fuschias. Portree, the Islands capital, about 20 miles away with loads of restaurants and shops and a very pretty bay and harbour. From here you can tour the North West of the Island taking in such sights as Kilt Rock.
