Daviot Aberdeenshire Visitor Information Guide
Daviot Aberdeenshire, This is now a very small parish within which were once three stone circles; but now only one the Loanhead Stonc Circle remains.
This recumbent stone circle consists basically of a ring cairn surrounded by a circle of standing stones; among them is one huge boulder placed in a horizontal position.
The circle at Daviot occupies a broad shell‘ near the top of a gentle hill that is none the less visible from a fair distance in the area.
Excavation of pottery suggests that the cairn was probably used as a dwelling~place in the first
millennium B.C., but was originally a burial cairn about l,000 years before that.
