Stronsay A flat and fertile island. there is evidence of past inhabitants to be seen in the Lamb Head broch close by, a formation running into the sea that some used to think was an old Norse pier.
Towards the end of last century Stronsay made the headlines with the 'Stronsay Beast'. Though history has since shown that the remains found on the island's shore were those of a large basking shark, at the time it created a heated debate among scholars in London and Edinburgh, who, as might be expected, agreed to disagree on the origins of the beast. As early as 13 I 9, Stronsay was a fishing community, which industry the islanders still practise.
